HOUSTON - Today, Ed Hubbard filed the paperwork and has taken the other steps necessary to run for the office of Chairman of the Harris County Republican Party.

The campaign is also announcing that Houstonian Joseph O. Slovacek will serve as the campaign treasurer.

"I did not come to the decision to run easily. Since November of last year, I have attended meetings all over Harris County with concerned precinct chairmen, concerned voters, concerned contributors, and concerned office holders," said Hubbard.

"In these meetings two themes were consistently raised: the Harris County Republican Party needs new and real leadership; and it needs a new and effective strategy for winning elections. So, today I begin a campaign for Chairman that will take me to all parts of Harris County and to all the potential Republican voters of this great county."

"I will campaign the same way I will lead. Everyone will have access to my plan and will be able to review it and offer input," Hubbard added.

Ed Hubbard then added, "I know this task will not be easy. But freedom has never been easy. The causes our party fights for have never been easy. And nothing worth accomplishing has ever been easy."

"I have opened this dialogue and I will continue it until the last ballot is cast. I encourage you all to engage me, to tell me what you think and to guide me where I may need to be guided."

Why is Ed Hubbard taking on this fight? "I firmly believe that one person, or one group of people, committed to positive ideas, can reform a community for the better. Such positive reform rarely comes through revolution, which destroys more than it builds, or through grand schemes that always fail. Instead, such reform usually results from sustained effort to turn the hearts and minds of one person, one family, and one neighborhood at a time. Soon the momentum shifts, and the movement spreads like a wildfire," concluded Hubbard.
